Tara's Got Hitched
We've come up trumps again, with a third Avatar bride in as many years. (Honestly, what us girls do to put the 'smart casual' look aside for a day!)
This year's bride is Tara, who got hitched to Dave (he of the very hirsute frame) in a fun-filled wedding celebration in Christchurch this month. For those who are interested, the bride wore white and the groom wore aftershave.
Tidbits
- Run 5kms and forget the Christmas pudding 'hang' over! If you're wondering just how long your favourite running route really is, where the best tracks for biking or running are or just want to keep track of your New Year's resolution, check out MapMyRun.
- Rubberband Boy and the Daredevil Chicken Club... It's back again for another year of thrills, spills, giggles and gaffes. If you're in Christchurch, pop along to support the 2008 International Buskers Festival.
- Virgin Galactic unveils spaceship designs. It looks a bit like something out of Star Wars... Branson and crew unveil the design for the launch system for
SpaceShipTwo - all set for blast off in 2010.
- Enjoy the sounds of summer. Bop away to your fave bands at gigs around New Zealand with the help of NZS's guide to summer music.
- What does your handwriting say about you? Tul pens came up with this wonderful tongue-in-cheek handwriting analysis / advert. If you've got a few minutes, why not take their graphological journey and find out if Dr Gerard lurves you.
- Wedding rings save lives. One of the great things about Tara and Dave getting married this month, is that they now have 22-carat protection from gun-toting robbers.

Retirement Guide
The Brief — The Yellow Pages Group approached Avatar to commission a re-design and complete rebuild of their existing directory style Web site aimed at seniors in New Zealand (www.seniors.co.nz). The brief included requirements for a brand-centric design, easy to use search facility, search engine friendly design and a comprehensive backend for use by administrators and customers.
What We Did — We spent over 300 hours designing and developing a tailor-made searchable database style Web site, which can be easily used by Yellow Pages staff to update content and add, modify and delete advertisers' listings and Web listings. We provided on and off-line documentation to give staff full system support and online instruction for advertisers. Some of the features we incorporated include:
- Listing search facility
- Listings database
- Brand design incorporating company logo and colour
- Advertising banners, logo and strong calls to action
- Meta data rich content pages and listings categories
- Easy to use advertiser login
- Buttons to decrease and increase text size.
A Real Result — The Yellow Pages Group (YPG) received a comprehensive Web solution ahead of schedule and completed in accordance with a highly detailed technical specification (written by our programming team). The Web site is ranking in top positions on search engines such as Google for 'retirement' related keyword phrases and blends seamlessly into the family of YPG Web sites.
